“And they said, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household.” And they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all who were in his house. And he took them the same hour of the night and washed their wounds; and he was baptized at once, he and all his family. Then he brought them up into his house and set food before them. And he rejoiced along with his entire household that he had believed in God.” -Acts 16: 31-34
Family is one of the most important units in the community. It should be an individual’s first-hand experience of belongingness and their first exposure to human connections and relationships. Your family plays a big role in your individuality as you grow older. The values that were instilled with you as a child also play a part as to how you become in the future.
That’s why when it comes to nurturing a strong foundation in Christian values in your children, you as parents must be builders of this foundation. Being the first teachers of your children, practicing and teaching them good Christian values will help them take these values and make it a part of how they will be as a person in the future.
Not only will the faith you instill in your children bring them joy in the salvation they’ve received in Christ, but they will also be able to express it outward to the people that they meet in the future.
“And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.”-Deuteronomy 6:6-7
Why not make the time you spend with your children, a time when you spend with God as well? Bible sharings or moments of prayer can be a memorable experience with your child as well. Teach them doctrine-based learning as a way to live a fruitful life in reverence to Jesus Christ.
Also, your Bible sharings, when you open up to them about your struggles and how God has helped you overcome them, so they may learn to turn to God at times when they are troubled as well.
You can sing praises with them in times of joy, letting them learn songs that speak the love of the Lord. Another way to expose your children to God’s goodness is by encouraging them to join you in community outreach programs, perhaps led by your local community Baptist church. Letting them become an example of God’s goodness at an early age will bring them more positive experiences and realizations in the future.
