Serving in the military and moving every few years is difficult when it comes to looking for a new church to belong to. Thankfully, at Calvary Road, we were put in touch with families who go through the same hardships this lifestyle brings. Consequently, we didn’t feel alone at all from the very beginning! In our Sunday school class, we’ve made great friends with members who also serve in the DoD and other areas of the federal government.
We came to Calvary Road Baptist Church during the thick of the pandemic. Although attendance at the church was sparse at the time, the warm reception we were given was not. We instantly felt right at home at CRBC with a warm welcome from pastor Dave Rhodenhizer and his wife Linda. In June 2022, my wife Erica suddenly lost her sister, and in the middle of all the pain and grief, we found amazing love and support from this church family. They were very quick to offer help in any way they could. We are thankful for the direction they continue to provide us as we attempt to find new opportunities to serve in different ministries and find purpose and fulfillment in belonging to the body of Christ. If you’re looking for a church to attend, give Calvary Road Baptist church a try and come visit us on Sunday.

There are many reasons why we are grateful for Calvary Road Baptist Church (CRBC). Not only is it the place where we first met, it is also where God has taught us most about caring for the body of Christ, reaching the unsaved, and communing with God every day.
While I (Jasmyne) have grown up at CRBC, Gabriel found the church after moving to NOVA from his home in Spain. Since getting married, it has been our privilege to serve together in various ministries. We currently serve as leaders in Rise, the church’s NextGen College ministry.
Here at CRBC, sound teaching and long-lasting friendships have helped us greatly in our Christian walk. In just a few, short years, God has changed our priorities and perspective for His glory. We are humbled and motivated to continue serving at Calvary Road, where God has called us.

Being a military family, it’s somewhat challenging to find the perfect church home when you move around so frequently. We moved to the DC area back in August of 2012 with our then 6 month old son. We didn’t have to look far when we came to Calvary Road Baptist for the first time. On that Sunday, we went to the 8:00 am worship service and then went to Mike Williams’ Sunday School class afterwards. Everyone was welcoming and friendly, and we just knew in our hearts that this is where God wanted us to be.
We knew we would only be here for about a year so we were faithful in coming to church but did not actively serve until we came back for the second time. Thankfully, we found a similar church in Florida to attend from 2013 to 2016. When we moved back to Alexandria in October of 2016, there was no doubt about it: we were going to serve and worship the Lord at Calvary Road. It is everything and more that we look for in a church when we move. It’s always felt like “home” to us. The ministries here at Calvary are rock solid, and we’ve experienced spiritual growth because of it. We’re excited to be a part of the CRBC family!

Like so many families in Northern Virginia, we are here because of military service. Over the years, God has blessed us with faithful, Bible-preaching, Bible-teaching churches that have strengthened our walk with Him. Calvary Road Baptist Church has been another tremendous blessing, helping our family continue to grow in our faith and deepen our love for Jesus Christ.
My wife and I were both raised in church. We grew up attending youth ministries, and my wife also attended a Christian school. After we each joined the Navy, however, church attendance gradually became limited to holidays and special occasions. Eventually, our paths crossed in San Diego, where we began dating and were later married.
When our first son, Ivan, was born, my wife felt God leading us back to church. We visited several churches before finding an Independent Baptist church in San Diego. It was there that our love for God's Word and our relationship with Jesus truly began to grow. A few years later, the Navy transferred my wife to the Pentagon, which meant another move and another search for a church home. After visiting several churches in the area, we knew Calvary Road Baptist Church was where God wanted us to be.
We are so thankful for this church family. We appreciate the strong biblical preaching, the excellent Sunday School classes for our children that reinforce what we teach at home, and the adult Sunday School classes that continue to help us grow in our faith. Calvary Road has truly become our church home, and we are grateful for the love, encouragement, and spiritual growth we have found here.
